a divine appointment on the feast of tabernacles
Years ago, I had an unforgettable encounter in Jerusalem that correlates so well with my new book, The Seven Living Prophecies. It was during the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) and Jerusalem was packed shoulder to shoulder with people from all over the world to celebrate the seventh and final “Feast of the Lord”. As our group was about to exit King David’s Tomb, someone grabbed my arm. Surprised, I turned to see an Orthodox rabbi dressed in an ornate robe, round fur hat, and full beard. Smiling warmly, he said, “Come inside our sukkah.”
A sukkah is a temporary booth built for the Feast of Tabernacles, and this one was filled with Jewish men. It was obvious to everyone that we were a Christian group, yet the Rabbi invited me to join the celebration of God’s appointed time.
The Rabbi asked me where I lived. I told him I was from Dallas, Texas. “Great,” he said, “and what do you do for a living?” I thought, “Oh, here it comes. When I tell him I’m a Christian pastor, our friendly visit could be over.” Of course, I told him anyway. “That’s great!” He exclaimed. Then he grabbed a kippah, a man’s skull cap, and put it on my head. Next, he wrapped my shoulders in a tallit and handed me the lulav and etrog, the plants that are waved during Sukkot. He gave me a warm hug, and we all began to dance arm in arm, in a circle, to celebrate the goodness of God.
An End Time Miracle Fueled By the Fire of the Holy SpiritThis, my friend, was an end-time miracle! Jew and Gentile coming together to celebrate, especially during the very holiday that God meant for this to take place, was like fire fueled by the Holy Spirit. To experience it in God’s holy city of Jerusalem was indescribable! There is no other city like it on Earth, especially on the Sabbath. People from different nations gather at the Western Wall to pray. Light shines on the ancient walls that once held the Temple. Day by day, Jews and Christians walk together! It is beautiful!
This second encounter was “no coincidence”
A year or so later, we took another group to Israel. After a Sabbath dinner, we walked through the old city to pray at the Western Wall. If you have been there, you know that men and women pray separately. Tiz took the women and I took the men to a synagogue under the Old City. Once there, we prayed with our Jewish brothers. As we were leaving, someone touched my arm. It was the same Orthodox Rabbi I had met the year before! Seeing our Christian group leaving King David’s Tomb probably did not seem unusual to him, but seeing us praying in a synagogue, on the Sabbath, at the Western Wall (the holiest place in all of Judaism— now that was another story!
After a short exchange, the rabbi pulled me aside. “Tell me Pastor, what do you teach in your church that causes you and your people to love Israel and the common prayer on Shabbat?” I told him that as Christians, we teach the Jewish roots of the Bible and celebrate Shabbat, Rosh Hashanah, and Yom Kippur. We worshipped the Lord together and prayed right there at the Western Wall. He gave me a big hug and said, “What you are teaching will pave the way for the Messiah’s coming.”
A 2000 Year Old Prophecy Fulfilled
His statement was prophetic and what Paul prophesied nearly 2,000 years ago was happening right before our eyes. Jesus has “broken down the middle wall of separation” and created “in Himself one new man.” (Eph. 2:14, 15) In my opinion, the prophecy of the “one new man” is one of the most important in God’s Word. It’s the main reason I wrote the book, “Seven Living Prophecies.” It’s the heart of our ministry.
We are dedicated to seeing Christians and Jews finally coming together in a spirit of unity. As this happens, and is even happening now, it is an end-time sign and will produce great miracle power to those who walk in this revelation.
Yes, Jesus has already paid for this miracle, but the physical remains of the wall won’t come down on their own. We must pull down these man-made walls together. As we do this to fulfill Bible prophecy, we are actually preparing the world for the coming of the Messiah.
