Tikkun Olam: Answering God’s Call This Yom Kippur Season

We are entering one of the holiest times on God’s calendar—Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, which takes place this week. Yom Kippur is not only about repentance and forgiveness; it also points us to God’s greater plan of restoration for the whole world.

God’s redemptive plan extends far beyond personal salvation. While our relationship with Him is central, it’s not the end goal. If worship were the only purpose, we could simply do that in heaven. Instead, He has positioned us here on earth with a mission: tikkun olam—the Hebrew phrase meaning repairing a broken world.

This calling beautifully captures our role as believers. We are God’s hands and feet, bringing restoration to places of brokenness. Through acts of kindness, generosity, and compassion, we participate in God’s work of making all things new. This isn’t separate from our spiritual life—it is the natural outflow of authentic faith.

Jesus modeled this perfectly. He didn’t just preach about heaven; He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and restored dignity to the marginalized. His sacrifice on Yom Kippur wasn’t just for spiritual cleansing but for holistic restoration of all creation.

Bringing Healing to Israel’s Children

This Yom Kippur season, we are reminded of how urgent this calling truly is. In Israel, children live with the scars of war and terrorism, carrying burdens no child should have to bear. Larry Huch Ministries, in partnership with Keren Hayesod, supports trauma-therapy programs and life-changing camps that provide healing, joy, and hope for these little ones.

The Cohen family experienced this first-hand. On a trip to the Western Wall, they were attacked by an angry mob. Though they escaped unharmed, the trauma lingered. Because of faithful partners, their children were able to attend a summer camp designed for victims of terror. There, they felt safe, restored, and free to be children again.

Their mother wrote:

“I want to express my deep gratitude and appreciation to those who support the Fund for Victims of Terror program. You give them the chance to attend camp in these difficult days, which gives them a feeling of security and ease, allowing them to be children. Our children feel that they are being seen and convey their deepest appreciation to all of you as well.”

Your Part in Tikkun Olam

We provide support to Israel through our several core outreaches, as well as our Israel Relief Fund, which includes emergency food boxes, vital medical supplies, and trauma care, among others.

This is what tikkun olam through trauma care looks like—restoring joy to children, healing shattered hearts, and living as the hands of Jesus to the broken.

Will you join us in this sacred calling?

As we step into Yom Kippur this week, God is calling us to participate in His redemptive plan for Israel and the nations.

Your prayers and your support make a tangible difference. Together, we can fulfill the biblical mandate of this season—bringing comfort, healing, and restoration to God’s people.

Your Best Is Yet To Come
